　　《华氏451度》讲了什么？

　　华氏451度，也就是摄氏223度，是令纸张燃烧的温度。在《华氏451度》里，科幻小说大师Ray Bradbury虚拟了一个未来的人类世界，在这个世界里，消防员不是以灭火而是以纵火焚书为职。因此，文明被破坏，思想被压制，社会发展几乎停滞。人们惰于思考，精神空虚。小说主人公Guy Montag从事消防员工作已经十年，他从未对自己的职业产生过疑虑，直到他遇到了女孩Clarisse McClellan，在与Clarisse的交谈中，Montag开始重新思考自己的职业并发起挑战，故事的结局充满希望。
　　语言学习
　　1.怎么写“停下来”？
　　书接上文，Montag下班后，从通道中滑到底层离开消防站，文中这样写：
　　He slid to a squeaking halt, the heels one inch from the concrete floor downstairs.
　　slide to a halt，意思是滑动着停下来。这个短语还可以延伸为come/grind/slow to a halt/stop，也可以写成come to a grinding/squeaking（吱嘎一声） halt。
　　例：Work has come to a halt due to a lack of raw materials. 由于缺少原料，工作已陷入停顿。
　　The car ground（grind的过去式和过去分词）to a halt when the engine broke down. 引擎出故障后，车停了下来。
　　Work would have come to a grinding halt without further notice. 没有进一步通知，工作得停下来了。
　　“让......停下来”可以表达为put a stop to sth或bring sth. to a stop/halt.
　　例： It’s time to put a stop to the violence. 是时候结束暴力了。
　　The thought brought her to an abrupt halt. 这个想法让她突然停了下来。

　　2.怎么写“出现”？
　　Montag离开消防站后，在拐角处似乎感觉到突然起风，作者是这样写的：
　　...he slowed as if a wind had sprung up from nowhere...
　　spring up，意思为突然出现，涌现，spring过去式为sprang, sprung。不要再看到spring就以为一定是春天了，也不要总是用appear表达出现了。
　　例：Many new factories have sprung up in my hometown. 很多新工厂突然在我的家乡涌现出来。
　　Doubts have begun to spring up in my mind. 疑虑开始在我心中涌现。

　　3.怎么写“空气中充满了某种氛围”？
　　Montag走向拐角处的人行道时，他对这个地方产生了不确定的感觉， “the air seemed charged with a special calm as if someone had waited there...”
　　charge sth with sth，意思是“使充满......情绪”。Oxford Advanced Learner’s English-Chinese Dictionary对这个词的解释为（usually passive通常用于被动语态）to fill sb with an emotion。
　　例：The room was charged with hatred. 屋子里充满了敌意。
　　The air was charged with tension. 空气中充满了紧张感。
